The transition from player to coach went smoothly. As a baseball player in high school I played with and against fellow all-staters Paul Starkovich, Ely and John Matetich, Hibbing. In basketball with Mike Carlson, Virginia; Richie Pearson, Duluth Central; Stan Krebs, Eveleth; Tony Pecha, Tower; and Lew Richert, Duluth East. These relationships and my experience in college as a baseball player prepared me for my ten year career as college basketball coach and athletic director. (Would someone give that man a haircut and PLEASE do something with those sideburns!)
