The Detroit Red Wings will be going after their fourth Stanley Cup Title since 1996-97 next week when the NHL playoffs begin.

Hello,

The Detroit Red Wings defeated the Columbus Blue Jackets last night 3-2. The Red Wings, down 2-1, scored 2 goals in the last minutes of play. Henrik Zetterberg scored the winning goal with just 11 seconds left in the contest.

The win gives the Red Wings the best overall record of any team in the league. In 1985-86 the NHL began presenting the President's Cup to the team with the best record during the regular season. Since its inception in 1985-86 the Red Wings have won the President's Cup a record 6 times. Tops among any team in the league. Detroit won the President's Cup in 1994-95, 1995-96, 2001-02, 2003-04, 2005-06, as well as this year. Last year they had the same number of points as Buffalo, but Buffalo won the Cup because they had more wins than Detroit.

The Red Wings will play their last game of the regular season this Sunday when they host the Chicago Blackhawks. Playoffs begin next week.

Have a great weekend,

Bill
